The first word we see Superman (David Corenswet) say on-screen — he mutters it to himself, having just had his big red butt entirely handed to him in a fight — is, "Golly." (Throughout the film, he peppers his dialogue with the occasional "gosh.")Later, Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) makes fun of his taste in music (bland, radio-friendly pop-punk).

When questioned about his reasons for performing a certain super-deed that saved thousands of lives, his response is incredulity: "Why? I mean … to do good! For, you know … good!"


At one point, instead of gloating over a fallen foe, he launches into an impassioned speech about his abject love of humanity and his own, all-too-human fallibility.

In terms of visual iconography, Gunn not only returns the classic red trunks to the Superman costume, he doubles down on them. He makes sure they evoke an old-school circus strongman, as the character's original illustrator Joe Shuster intended. Recent attempts to tell live-action Superman stories have shied away from his bright, hopeful, altruistic nature in favor of making him more cool and relatable (read: dark and brooding). That's not who he is; it never has been.

Superman is an ideal. He represents the best we can aspire to be. He's not the hero you relate to, à la Peter Parker/Spider-Man's ongoing struggle to pay his rent and buy Aunt May her damn medicine. He's the hero who inspires you, who shows you the way.

The way we Superman now

Every era gets the Superman it needs. Richard Donner's grand, mythic, unapologetically hopeful Superman: The Movie (1978) arrived in the wake of Vietnam and Watergate, when America had sunk into a defensive cynicism.

Gunn's Superman arrives at yet another time in American history when everything that we ostensibly stand for — bedrock American principles like justice for all, defending the defenseless, helping those in need — feel out of reach.

It's inspiring to be reminded what those ideals look like, even if Superman (and Superman) shows them to us through a bright, aspirational lens.

Saiyaara Full Movie Reviews: Romance, raw emotions, cinematic visuals, and stirring music are the hallmarks of a Mohit Suri movie, and the director delivers on all these fronts. Writer Sankalp Sadanah sets the emotional tone early: Vaani is jilted on her wedding day. Six months later, she picks up the pieces of her broken heart and lands a gig as an intern journalist. Enter Krish, a hot-headed and troubled young musician with dreams of making it big. The two find solace in each other amid their personal struggles, until a tragedy strikes that will test their love and emotional strength. The warm, fuzzy romance that paves the way for deeper love and emotion in the rest of the movie strikes the right notes. However, the narrative glosses over what the tragedy truly entails, hastening things for convenience, making the story a tad unconvincing.

It’s a romantic outing we have seen before, but it stays relevant to the new-age world of social media, reels, and collabs.Suri gets the emotional core just right, but the film’s uneven pacing intermittently slows things down and often rushes through pivotal turns. Moments of raw emotion do land, though a slightly rushed climax leaves much to be desired. The film’s emotional core finds a match in its evocative music by Faheem Abdullah, Tanishk Bagchi, Rishabh Kant, Vishal Mishra, Arslan Nizami, Mithoon, and Sachet-Parampara. John Stewart Eduri’s background score enhances the overall

experience. 

Vikas Sivaraman’s cinematography lends the movie an unmistakable cinematic appeal, with energetic live performances and camera angles that effectively capture the tender love and emotional scenes.Ahaan Panday’s makes a smashing debut, capturing both the rough-edged swagger of a star-in-the-making and the vulnerability demanded later on. His prowess is on display in the finale as he revisits an earlier scene—channelling Virat ‘King’ Kohli—transforming the raw passion of the first half into pure emotion later. Aneet Padda is impressive in romantic and emotional scenes, and has a dainty yet commanding screen presence. The actress shines in a recording studio scene early on, when she talks about the enduring nature of emotions in music versus fleeting trends.Saiyaara is a visually lush, emotive, and melody-driven experience that’s effective as a romantic musical. Impressive leads, heartfelt romance and emotions, and melodic tracks make it a worthwhile one-time watch for romantic-musical fans.

'Ajayante Randam Moshanam’ (ARM) Review:TovinoThomas Shines in a Visually StunningDramaDespite a Weak Script.

Director Jithin Laal showcases glimpses of his craftsmanship, while Tovino Thomas elevates the film with unique gestures and traits for each of his three characters across different timelines. Heritage is central to debutant Jithin Laal’s Ajayante Randam Moshanam (ARM), shaping the film’s characters—some embracing it with pride, while others struggle to break free from its burdens. For Ajayan (Tovino Thomas), lineage is both a blessing and a curse; his great-grandfather Kunjikelu was a revered warrior, but his grandfather Maniyan was labeled a thief, a stain that threatens to follow him in a village where caste divides run deep. Screenwriter Sujith Nambiar weaves fantasy elements into a grounded narrative infused with folktale undertones. At the heart of this mystical tale is an ornate lamp, crafted from a rare metal born of a meteor crash, believed to possess magical powers that bring prosperity to its owner. This lamp is deeply intertwined with the destinies of Ajayan and his two ancestors (all portrayed by Tovino Thomas), shaping his fate in the present.

With a premise steeped in folklore, director Jithin Laal had ample material for immersive world-building—and he utilizes it effectively. The film swiftly navigates through the heroic legacies of Ajayan’s ancestors before settling into the present, where Ajayan leads an unremarkable life as an electrician, secretly communicating with his girlfriend Lekshmi (Krithi Shetty) via ham radio.

These early sequences unfold seamlessly, hinting at an engaging narrative with rewarding payoffs down the line. One of the standout sequences in this phase unfolds when the police enter Ajayan’s home while he is teaching Constitutional Rights to children. 

His mother’s look of disappointment seamlessly transitions into a scene from the past, drawing a powerful connection between history and the present. For a significant portion, the film successfully balances realism and fantasy, making even its more fantastical moments feel grounded.

However, midway through, the narrative begins to lose its grip as the screenplay fails to expand on its promising premise, instead treading familiar ground. While there is an attempt to weave in a thought-provoking subtext on monarchy versus democracy, the impact is lessened by characters explicitly stating it rather than letting it unfold naturally.

Jomon T. John’s striking cinematography enhances the visual effects, delivering breathtaking sequences that are particularly impressive given the film’s modest budget—a fraction of what some “pan-India” productions command. Though certain visuals leave one wanting more, the film, within its genre, offers no shortage of awe-inspiring set pieces.

Tovino Thomas shoulders the film with a compelling performance, infusing each of his three characters with distinct gestures and mannerisms that set them apart across different timelines. His portrayal of Maniyan, in particular, adds depth to the film, preventing it from becoming just another costume drama. Krithi Shetty has little scope to shine, while Surabhi Lakshmi, in her brief role as Maniyan’s wife Manikyam, makes a lasting impact. Most other characters, barring Basil Joseph’s friend role, feel underdeveloped and fail to leave a strong impression.

Suhana Bhatia (Janhvi Kapoor) is a young, ambitious, high ranking officer at the Indian embassy situated in London. Her posting there has been a bit controversial as it's hinted it was done at the behest of her father Dhanraj Bhatia (Adil Hussain). Sebin Josephkutty (Roshan Mathew), a RAW agent embedded inside the embassy, is irked by it the most and doesn't take kindly to her appointment. She meets a mysterious stranger Nakul (Gulshan Devaiah), and promptly falls in lust with him. But Nakul is not who he seems. She finds herself caught in a web of lies and deceit where those close to her might be perpetrators to a larger conspiracy targeting India. How she gets out of the dastardly situation and fouls the plan of the villains forms the crux of the film.

The makers of the film have made a smart choice in casting Janhvi Kapoor as the protagonist. She's someone who has been tackling the tag of nepo-kid all her life. So to play a character accused of being the same would seem like second skin for her. She's also a woman successfully navigating a man's world. In one of her interviews, she mentioned that despite her background and legacy, she still sometimes lacks the confidence of putting across her point of view as she doesn't want to hurt anyone's ego. That's precisely what her character constantly also grows through. Despite being the smartest person in the room, she's made to feel small and incompetent by the males around her. So the casting was bang on.

In a world inundated with smartphones, and smart devices, there's very little privacy left for anybody. The fear of their intimate moments being made public is a real threat for celebrities. Let alone celebs, we often hear of girls from common households being blackmailed through the use of sex videos. The hookup culture may have its virtues but your partner can also turn out to be a wolf in sheep's clothing. In such circumstances, sometimes a person has nowhere to go and even has suicidal thoughts. It's hard to get out of such traps as they are set inside your mind and get strengthened with every negative thought. These very real life issues as well as the casual sexist behaviour and patriarchy faced by women at the workplace, are brought out in a way we can all relate to in the film. The good thing is that Janhvi isn’t painted as a victim but a survivor. She learns to rise above her fears and face life head on. Like a wounded tigress, she fights for lost pride and dignity and finally gets her life back on track. This struggle for survival later takes a tinge of patriotism as well, making the cause more noble in the process. National security takes precedence over personal gains and the heroine is shown fighting tooth and nail for her nation.

The first half of the film flows smoothly. The duplicity of Gulshan Devaiah’s character gets to you. You instantly root for Janhvi’s character and want her to get out of the mess as soon as possible. The emotional turmoil which she endures seems both real and scary. The film goes into a different zone then, making a shift from her personal issues to espionage. This transition could have been navigated better. The explosive climax makes up for the earlier hiccups. The ending leaves room for a sequel. Basically, one can view this film as the origin story for Janhvi’s character Suhana, who is all set to be a super spy in the next instalment. There’s also Jitendra Joshi, who plays a somewhat bumbling agent called Kamat and Ally Khan, who plays Suhana’s dapper boss.

Gulshan Devaiah looks good as a smooth-faced villain. He’s totally amoral and his arguments sound compelling. Thankfully, he isn’t shown as a radical terrorist but a mercenary. Rajesh Tailang, who plays the chauffeur, Adil Hussain and Rajendra Gupta, who is the corrupt minister, all do their bit, as does Meiyang Chang in his role of a loyal agent. Roshan Mathew hasn’t much to do initially but comes into his own later as a die-hard RAW agent willing to go any distance for his county. Janhvi starts off as the picture of poise and grace initially. Watching her go through her day as an embassy official or as a free-spirited girl having the time of her life after hours in London is easy on the eye. And as said earlier, you root for her when her world crumbles. Her transformation from a broken-down woman who climbs back to sanity and redemption is the film in a nutshell. A more nuanced writing would have served her better. She has given her all to the film and her sincere effort is to be lauded.
